Murder & Medication: It's So Much Easier To Die Than You Think
speaker: Robert Reiner, RPH (@Pharmrob)
role: Pharmacist
venue: Centuries & Sleuths Bookstore
host: Sisters in Crime, ChicagolandThis weekend I spent time with my favorite group of ghoulish ladies, my Sisters In Crime, listening to pharmacist Robert Reiner talk about how easy it it to "off" someone using prescription or over-the-counter (OTC) meds. Fictionally speaking, of course. Keep in mind, though we may kill people for fun, none of our victims are real. Our speaker Robert Reiner, pharmacist and childhood friend of author Annie Hansen, gave us a bevy of ways to kill people using the very medications lining the shelves of your bathroom cabinet. It'd be slightly irresponsible to go into details here, but here's the basic lowdown...

Combinations
...can kill you faster than you think. Combos of drugs. Combos of drugs and booze. Combos of pure stupidity and tragic accident.
ADHD drugs
...are the most abused drugs among young people. About 1 out of every 3 kids has tried them. Non-prescription. Seriously. What happened to just sleeping through class?
Tylenol
...is one of the easiest drugs to accidentally OD on because it's in so many other meds. Arthritis meds, cough meds, sleep aids can all contain acetaminophen. They pile up and before you know it, you're on dialysis. Or dead.
Be kind to your liver
Stop pushing crap through it. If it dies, you die. But first you turn yellow. And that's not a good look. One last note from Robert. Drug seekers--you know who you are--pharmacists are not dense. If you stop to chat and tell them how fiiiiiine they're looking today, they're going to shut you down. Take your not-so-smooth talk elsewhere. Also, stores and pharmacies all have cameras now. Big brother is watching you and hoarding his pills. Switch to sugar like the rest of us.
